Master's Office

The Master is the head and ranking officer of Berkeley College, responsible for the college's intellectual, social, athletic, and artistic life. The college is administered through the Master's Office (M.O.), which is staffed by an operations manager, senior administrative assistant, and student aides. The Master works closely with the Dean, Resident Fellows, the Dining Hall Manager, and other staff to build the best possible community for our students.

Master Marvin M. Chun

Marvin M. Chun, Professor of Psychology and John B. Madden Master of Berkeley College, assumed leadership of Berkeley College in 2007. Cyndi Erickson, Operations Manager

Cyndi Erickson is the Operations Manager for both Berkeley and Cahoun Colleges.  Cyndi has been with Berkeley since 1997 and has just recently joined Calhoun.  With direction from Master Chun and Master Holloway, Cyndi is responsible for managing the financial and administrative operations of both colleges.  This includes overseeing the colleges' finances, events, and facilities.  Cyndi also coordinates special projects, and serves as liaison between the colleges and the Yale College Business Office.   This deceptive description fails to explain how truly vital Cyndi is in maintaining the collegiate environment.  She manages every facet of college life with a particular, however notorious, sense of humor.  In overseeing College funds, fellowships and events, Cyndi has developed a deep knowledge of the College’s history and daily goings-on.  Because of this, she is often every student’s first recourse for questions about college life.  At most every  event, you will find her working behind the scenes with Sue Matteo and Angela MacCray and the Master’s Aides to ensure its success.

Cyndi loves working in her garden and playing with her grandchildren as well as being around Berkeleyites, of course!

Cyndi is in F20 and can be reached by e-mail at cynthia.erickson@yale.edu or at 436-2899 on weekdays.

Sue Matteo, Senior Administrative Assistant

Sue Matteo is the Senior Administrative Assistant to the Master.  Sue comes to us from Yale Summer Session and we are so happy to have her here with us. Sue works with Cyndi and the College Master’s Aides to manage college activities as well as the bustling Master’s Office. Sue is the point person for any questions about college life and facilities (including scheduling use of public spaces like the Multipurpose Room, BK Gym, the Music Room, and the Mendenhall Room). If Sue or the Master’s Aides don’t have the answer, they will be able to direct you to someone who can help. Sue is very efficient in helping you with any need you may run into including taking care of your chocolate cravings. She is also the person to see if you find yourself wrapped in a towel and locked out of your room. If you need to make an appointment with the Master, contact Sue who is always willing to lend a hand or an ear to students who need it.

Sue loves traveling and going to concerts in her free time.

Sue is in F15 and can be reached by e-mail at susan.matteo@yale.edu or at 432-0501 on weekdays.

Master's Aides

Master's Aides are sophomores, juniors, and seniors who have been chosen by the Master to assist Cyndi in the running of the college. They help organize the many events sponsored by the Master's office, from the Freshman Picnic at the beginning of the year to the Berkeley Commencement in May. Each is responsible for specific areas of the College, including the Berkeley Bagel Bar, Library, and printing press. They can often be found in the Master's Office helping make life slightly less stressful for Berkleyites.
