Maya Alvear Maya (she/her) is from Fort Worth, Texas and is a Chemical Engineering major working in a water catalysis lab and an environmental technology startup in the Yale School of Engineering and Applied Science. During her summers she has worked in the Engineering department of her local Water District and in the Operations department of L’Oreal at their manufacturing plant in North Little Rock, AR. Outside of engineering, Maya was a Harvest leader for two years and loves the program as well as learning about sustainable agricultural practices and food justice. Maya is also the author of the Berkeley Intramurals newsletter where she offers witty trash talk each week, so keep an eye out for that. In her free time she likes to play soccer and write poetry, and can be spotted soaking up some sun on cross campus with friends. Don’t hesitate to reach out to her about social life at Yale, the intricacies of the STEM departments, Texas, or to just yap over dinner or in her FroCo suite about literally anything else. Maya can’t wait to meet the Class of 2028 and help welcome them to the best residential college at Yale! |
Bethel Asomaning Bethel (she/ her) is from Olympia, Washington and is majoring in Cognitive Science with interests in learning and development. She currently works as a research assistant in the Leonard Learning Lab and as a student intern at the Good Life Center. She is also involved in Christian community on campus and intramural sports (especially volleyball). On campus, she enjoys going to student performances, playing squash (not super well), and playing games with her suitemates. She also enjoys trying new foods and reading memoirs. She can’t wait to meet class of ‘28 and see where life at Yale takes them! |
Charmaine Bayalan Charmaine (she/her) is thrilled to be a Berkeley Froco! She has been a Berkeley College Aide since her freshman year at Yale and absolutely loves the Berkeley community. She studies History of Science, Medicine and Public Health and was born and raised in the Philippines, but her family moved to Anchorage, Alaska in 2014. Aside from being a Berkeley College Aide, she also works with Yale Hospitality, Yale Undergraduate Admissions Office, Yale Alumni Association, and Yale Hunger and Homelessness Action Project. In Berkeley, you can find her having long meals in the (best) dining hall, lounging in one of the Berkeley courtyards, or taking a break in the roost. Charmaine is an avid fan of Alaskan summers, basketball games, and traveling. She cannot wait to meet the new class of Berkeleyites! |
Andrik Garcia Andrik (he/him) grew up in Mexico and currently lives in South Texas. He is majoring in Political Science with a focus on financial regulation and political philosophy. Andrik is also involved in the Yale Interpretation Network, Orchestra Tertulia, and Mariachi Lux et Veritas. When not writing papers, he enjoys cooking, tennis, and the Berkeley massage chairs. Andrik loves to learn different languages and spent last semester studying French in Paris. Moreover, he is always willing to chat about study abroad programs, the best coffee spot in New Haven, business-adjacent things, and “underground” indie bands. Finally, Andrik is super excited to meet and support Berkeley’s class of 2028! |
Abel Geleta Abel (uh-bell) (he/him) is from Northern Virginia, having moved from Ethiopia to Arlington at the age of 8. As a proud first-generation college student, he is currently in the 5-year BA/MPH program with a focus on Healthcare Management, his undergraduate degrees are in History of Science and Medicine and Global Health Studies. Throughout his time at Yale, Abel has embraced leadership roles, serving as the co-president of the Yale Ethiopian Eritrean Student Association (YEESA), co-vice president of education for BlackGen @ Yale, and solidarity chair of Yale Black Men’s Union (BMU). Additionally, he contributes as a staff reporter for the Yale Daily News and volunteers with local organizations like HAVEN Free Clinic and Elena’s Light, as he is committed to community service in New Haven. Abel is keen on sharing the wealth of experiences he’s garnered within the Yale community and beyond, and he’s eager to guide first-year students through the myriad opportunities at Yale and in New Haven. In his free time, Abel is an avid basketball player and fan, regularly participating in pick-up games at Payne Whitney and playing intramurals for Berkeley College, the 2022 IM basketball champions. |
Treyton Martin Treyton (he/him) is from a small town called Nappanee, Indiana. He is majoring in Environmental Studies, focusing on marine science and policy, and he is also interested in increasing opportunities for rural students. At Yale, he has worked with the Yale Policy Institute, the Undergraduate Admissions Office, the Peabody Museum, and the Berkeley College Office. Treyton loves spending time in nature in any way he can, from scuba diving to hiking. Ask him about the NFL (Go Pack Go), his favorite music, and traveling. He’s excited to be a Froco and can’t wait to meet the class of 2028! |
